SynergEyes Launches UltraHealth®: A New Contact Lens for Irregular Corneas and Keratoconus

Carlsbad, CA (January 22, 2013) SynergEyes, Inc., the leader in hybrid contact lens technology, announced that UltraHealth®, its next generation hybrid contact lens for patients with irregular corneas and keratoconus, launched at Global Specialty Lens Symposium- January 24, 2013, at the Rio Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The new UltraHealth®, made from high oxygen permeable (Dk) silicone-hydrogel material, is a hybrid lens designed for emerging, mid-stage, and advanced keratoconus. The design concept is in the form of reverse geometry including a combination of a soft skirt (Dk 84) and central RGP material (Dk 130). The design creates a central area of vault, which is available in several vault heights to assure excellent corneal clearance. The silicone hydrogel skirt is available in three curves (flat, medium, steep) to assure centration and patient comfort. With proper fitting, the proprietary soft lift curve if the assures cornea clearance with no hard landing zone, thereby enhancing patient comfort. The reverse geometry design allows the lens to achieve the vault required to contain the cone with a flatter base curve than a standard geometry design, resulting in an optimized lacrimal lens, and requiring a lower minus lens power. The flatter BCR also allows the centration of UltraHealth® to be less dependent on the location of the cone. A better centration in concert with a lower power acts to reduce aberrations and increases the quality of the patient’s vision. The combination of the new lens design and advanced material provides high oxygen (Dk) permeability. The high Dk is ideal for compromised corneas to minimize corneal stress.

UltraHealth® demonstrates that SynergEyes has successfully developed another hybrid contact lens that fits a range of patients with irregular corneas, including emerging to mid-stage and advanced keratoconus; central, oval, and decentered cones; and corneal ectasia for any reason.

“The UltraHealth® hybrid contact lens gives patients with irregular corneas wearing RGP lenses, soft lenses, a piggyback system or scleral lenses a new way to have clearer, more stable vision, better comfort and corneal health, says Dr. James Kirchner, SVP of Clinical and Professional Services, SynergEyes “The design of UltraHealth® enables the lens to center very well on irregularly shaped corneas, to provide very crisp vision. Since the lens is designed to “vault” over the peak of the cornea, the comfort is also greatly improved. Patients love the improvement in comfort, vision, and corneal health they get with UltraHealth®!

Including international distributorships, UltraHealth® is now available from more than 24 distributors in 40 countries. With the national launch at GSLS, UltraHealth® is now available to optometrists and ophthalmologists in the United States and Canada.

SynergEyes®, Inc. was founded in 2001 with a recognized need for a hybrid contact lens that combined the superior visual acuity of a rigid gas permeable lens with the comfort of a soft contact lens. SynergEyes is the leading contact lens company dedicated to independent eye care professionals in the United States.

The patented SynergEyes® hybrid technology is providing comfortable clear vision through the services of more than 7000 eye care practitioners worldwide.
