“Improvement in comfort, both under normal circumstances and in dusty environments.”

“Perhaps the most striking change that my patients have noticed when I have switched them from hard (or Gas-Permeable [GP]) lenses to hybrid lenses is the improvement in comfort, both under normal circumstances and in dusty environments. With standard GP lenses, as soon as debris is introduced in the environment, the lenses need to be removed and reinserted due to immediate and severe discomfort. With hybrid lenses, debris does not have a chance to make its way under the lens to irritate the wearer. Additionally, when the eyelids move over the surface of the lens, they first hit a soft, floppy edge and glide seamlessly over the GP portion of the lens, greatly improving comfort under normal circumstances over standard GP lenses. Ten years ago, 95% of my patients with keratoconus were wearing GP lenses. Now only 50% are in GP lenses and 50% are in hybrid lenses.”
